Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for full-time maid in Singapore?

Loyal Employment Agency has more than 2000 maids from 60+ maid agencies. Click here to search for maids’ bio-data. All the maids available here are represented by respective maid agencies. You may want to indicate your preference for a certain maid agency, and whether you are looking for a Transfer (available immediately) or New (depending on availability from country of preference) maid. Once you have shortlisted your maids based on your selection criteria, you can request maid agencies to contact you, or you can contact the appropriate maid agency directly.

Why should I engage a maid agency?

Most maid agencies provide comprehensive services to assist you in employing a maid. A maid agency usually covers all the hassles of Work Permit application, security bond, insurance, travel arrangement, medical screening, etc. so that you don’t have to do them yourself. However, do check with the individual maid agencies for their pricing, service package and other relevant details.

Can I employ maid from any country?

No, only those from MOM (Ministry of Manpower) approved countries for FDW (Foreign Domestic Workers) are allowed to be employed here in Singapore. These countries are: Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh.

What is a security bond?

Employers are responsible for the repatriation of the maid. A security deposit (bond) of $5,000 per maid is required to be submitted with the Work Permit Department in the MOM. If you fail to repatriate the maid after the cancellation of her work permit, you risk losing the $5,000 security deposit (bond).

Can I avoid making the $5,000 security deposit?

Various insurance policies such as those from Anda or NTUC Income are available to be purchased to bypass the payment of the $5000 security deposit. However as mentioned, the consequence for failing to repatriate the maid when necessary will cause the employer to still be liable for the $5,000, regardless of the insurance policies.

What are the medical examinations necessary for the maid I have employed?

Within 14 days of your maid’s arrival to Singapore, she must undergo a medical examination to be certified fit for work. Subsequently, the maid is required to undergo six-monthly medical screenings, for VDRL, pregnancy, and HIV.

Am I responsible for the medical expenses of the maid?

Yes, as an Employer, you are required to bear the full cost of their medical expenses, including hospitalization. It is advisable to have insurance coverage for any hospitalization expenses for your maid. Depending on the options you choose when purchasing personal accident insurance coverage, it might have been already included. If not, you can always contact the relevant insurance companies such as Anda, or NTUC Income.

Can I be exempted from attending the Employers’ Orientation Programme?

Only with valid reasons such as medical issues or disability, are you able to be exempted from attending the programme. In which case, the relevant forms and documentations have to be submitted accordingly.

How much is the maid levy?

The Levy is set at $265 per month. However, if you have children below 12 years old or you are living with elderly persons aged 65 years old and above, this levy is reduced to $170 per month. The CPF Board collects the Levy on behalf of MOM as their assigned collection agent. For further details on whether you qualify for levy concession, click here.

Can I get a refund on the maid-levy paid during the period that my maid goes on home leave?

Yes, you can request for a refund for the maid-levy paid for the period your maid is not in Singapore. You can go to any CPF branch, and produce your maid’s passport to support your claim for refund.

Do I have to pay the maid salary when she goes on home leave?

It depends on the employment contract the maid has with you. However the usual practice includes home leave being treated as unpaid leave for its duration.
